PE and Sports Funding

Sports Premium Funding 2016-17

Background:

In April 2013, the Government announced that an additional funding of £150 million per annum would be provided to schools for the academic years 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 to improve provision of Physical Education (PE) and sport in primary schools.  This provision was subsequently extended at least for the academic year 2015-2016 .  This funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport and is allocated directly to primary school head teachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.  Every state-maintained school, academy, middle school, special school and pupil referral unit with primary aged pupils receives £8,000 plus a ‘top up’ of £5 per pupil. The sports premium is calculated on the January census and arrives in the school budget via Additional Schools Grant (ASG) in October.

Purpose of Funding:

The Sports Premium Funding  can only be spent on sport, PE and Healthy Lifestyles provision in schools, although schools have the freedom to choose how best to do this.  Schools are held accountable for how they spend their funding and are required to publish on-line information about how they have used the additional funding.  OFSTED will play a significant role in ensuring that schools target this funding in areas which will lead to clear outcomes in raising standards and opportunities in PE and school sport for all children throughout the Primary Phase.

How the Sports Premium Funding is spent at North Cadbury CEVC Primary School:

Part of our funding is used to employ a PE specialist to deliver one hour of high quality PE/ Games to each class, which this academic year happens on a Tuesday.

The responsibilities of the specialist provider are:

The remainder of our funding is used for:

 Evaluating the impact:

We will evaluate the impact of the Sports Premium Funding as part of the school’s self-evaluation process.  The Head teacher and PE subject leader will evaluate how well the funding has been used to support the development of the quality and breadth of PE and sporting provision, including increasing participation in sport to enable all children to develop healthy lifestyles.
