What makes our school healthy

HEALTHY SCHOOL - HEALTHY FOOD

All of our children enjoy a minimum of two hours physical activity each week and often much more.

As a National ‘Healthy School’ all Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children have daily free fruit in school.

We ask that children bring snacks of fresh fruit or vegetables. Chocolate/Crisps are not encouraged.

Our Year 5/6 children run a Healthy Eating snack bar every Tuesday and Friday where children can purchase a small healthy snack for 20p.

Daily tasty hot meals are available supplied from the Ansford School kitchen and conform with current food nutritional standards required for schools. We ask that packed lunches are kept healthy and offer workshop/activities to support parents in this.

HEALTHY SCHOOL – HEALTHY EXERCISE

All of our children enjoy a minimum of two hours physical activity each week and often much more. We promote learning outdoors, and we offer clubs at lunchtime and after school to encourage active lifestyles. Our children are encouraged to be active at playtime.

HEALTHY SCHOOL – HEALTHY MINDS

We help children to develop an understanding and appreciation of themselves before all else.  We want them to grow into confident and resilient individuals who can actively participate in friendships and relationships. Christian values underpin our whole school ethos of understanding, compassion and forgiveness.

These attitudes then contribute to them becoming happy, successful learners. We use SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) throughout the school to develop and embed these skills of personal, social and emotional awareness and confidence.

HEALTHY SCHOOL – ECO SCHOOL

We believe our children should share responsibility for their world and to understand how they can make a difference in the future. Our curriculum has a strong focus on sustainability, Climate Change and care for our environment and we work closely with the Somerset Waste Action Programme. Much of our learning takes place outside.

We are a Bronze Eco School and the children are involved in recycling in all classes.

Years 5 and 6 have energy teams who help reduce water and energy consumption in school.  They also help with litter collecting around the village throughout the year. The children help to weed, plant and maintain areas in school. They are actively involved in developing safe habitats for plants and animals around the site.
